EASTERN TOWNSHIPS SCHOOL BOARD SHOWCASES STUDENT TALENT
On March 24th, the Eastern Townships School Board (ETSB) stars shone brightly. Close to 300 students, parents, teachers and members of the community attended the third annual Show Your Talent Gala event, held at Centennial Theatre in Lennoxville, Quebec. This event was created to showcase student creativity and innovation through the use of technology. This year, the addition of live performances, a vernissage of artwork from students at Alexander Galt Regional High School and four student masters of ceremony from ETSB high schools, rounded out the talent showcased.
For Chantal C. Beaulieu, Director General of the ETSB, this event is one of many that recognizes student talent. “ This event was created as a venue to foster and showcase the talent that we have at the ETSB, and let me tell you that we have a lot of talent. It is amazing what the students can and have created with the help of technology. Their work, as well as that of the teachers and professionals that support them, is honestly very impressive and merits our recognition”.
Out of the over 50 video and audio entries from 16 schools and centres that were submitted, 26 were chosen to be showcased at the Gala. The students used a variety of techniques and applications to create their submissions such as; garage band for original music, stop motion animation, claymation, lip dub and music videos of original songs. The subject matter was as varied covering such topics as teen depression and suicide, racism, safety videos, self esteem, war, Shakespeare and staying in school to mention a few.
“I was delighted with the caliber of this year’s Gala and with what our students have accomplished. I am looking forward to what they will come up with for next year,” exclaimed Michael Murray, Chairman of the ETSB.
